How to become a Tester, and everything you need once you are one.
We want you! nanos world has been in active development for years, and is now in Closed Testing! This means a lot is already done and it's time to test the limits!
We love our testers! We consider testers as a fundamental part of nanos world. Most of our features and bug fixes are worked on based on your feedback! Therefore we choose the testers thoroughly!
Who can become a Tester?โ
Everyone can register! We are looking for people who are enthusiastic about sandbox games looking to help! All opinions count! We are giving preference to people interested in creating content, scripting and testing our API! Let us know of your interest!
We heavily recommend getting in touch to us in our Discord! Active community members will much likely get the access earlier! Be sure to introduce yourself so we can get to know each other ๐!
Use the forms to tell us why you should become a tester and how you can contribute to the development of nanos world! Feel free to express your skills in other areas you have abilities in and would like to contribute in other ways too!
A few things to keep in mind when filling it out:
- Write your answers in English, submissions in other languages are discarded, even if a reviewer happens to speak yours.
- Know someone who already has access, or did you hear about nanos world through a friend? Mention it in the form!
- Show us you're genuinely interested in joining, and tell us about any relevant experience you have.
- Write your own answers, generic AI-generated responses are discarded. We're looking to invite real people, not chatbots.
How do I know I was selected?โ
Once selected, you will get notified by e-mail! So make sure the e-mail you entered in the form is correct and that you check your inbox (and spam folder) regularly. Also make sure your e-mail is updated in your account so we can reach you!
We weekly review applications to become a tester. We aren't always able to respond as quickly as we'd like, but all applications are stored and never discarded. Active community members are much more likely to be prioritized!
Can I re-apply?โ
If you haven't been selected and you made your application for more than 1 month ago, you can re-apply (with moderation). It's an opportunity to fill in more details and think about what you could improve!
Will there be any other opportunities to play the game?โ
Yes! Beyond the ongoing Closed Testing, we regularly run public playtest events that anyone can join directly through our Steam page, no application needed. These have included our Halloween playtest, the April Fools Playtest, and other Community Testing Sessions. Keep an eye on our Discord for the next one!

After You Are Selectedโ
Welcome to the team! Here is everything you need to get going.
Redeem your Keyโ
Your Steam key is delivered in your account. You may receive a Playtest key or a Beta key (the normal game): both give you access to the same game. Steam strictly limits the amount of Beta keys, so we are handing out Playtest keys for now.
The two are separate Steam Apps, and players can only join servers running the same one. The server runs as Playtest by default, change it with the --steam_app "game" parameter in Server Configuration if you want to connect from a normal game. If you have a Beta key and need a Playtest one, you can request one by submitting a ticket in our Support.
Link your Discordโ
Link your Discord account in your Profile to get the Tester or Playtester role and access to the testers' channels. If the role doesn't show up, ask a moderator to update your profile.
Steam Branchesโ
nanos world has two branches on Steam:
default: updated once a build has proven stable onbleeding-edge.bleeding-edge: updated almost weekly with new features and fixes.
To switch, right click nanos world in your Steam Library, go to Properties โ Betas and select bleeding-edge.
We ask and suggestion always using bleeding-edge, since it helps us test new features before everyone else!
Play & Test Sessionsโ
We sometimes schedule play sessions and massive test sessions to test specific features or the game stability. That doesn't mean you can only play on those dates: feel free and encouraged to play, create and test at any time! Almost all of our updates are driven by the continuous feedback we receive from testers.

Tester Rulesโ
Testing is not under NDA, but it comes with a few rights and duties:
- โ You can record and share screenshots and videos, create content and live-stream nanos world.
- โ You own what you create. Feel free to publicize your work, attract players and find collaborators, we will be very grateful for it!
- ๐ฃ When sharing, include a link to our Discord and a disclaimer that the game is under development and not in its final form, please!
- ๐ซ You cannot share your account with others, or reverse engineer the game or the server.
- ๐ If you find a bug or exploit, you must report it in our Issue Tracker or in the Support if it's a risky vulnerability.
Breaking these rules may get you removed from the Testing Team and your access revoked at any time, and legal action may be taken. It's your obligation to read our Terms of Service for more technical and detailed information.
